Your privacy and security are of the utmost importance to us. This article explains how INS LifeGuard and the INS LifeGuardian® app handle your personal and health information — including who controls it, how it’s used, stored, and shared, and how you can access or manage it. Ownership, Access and Control

Who controls my health data collected through the INS LifeGuardian® app?

You retain control over your personal and health information. INS collects and manages this information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)

Can I see what information INS LifeGuard holds about me?

Yes. You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you. Please email our Privacy Officer or call 1800 636 226 to make a request.

How can I correct or update inaccurate information?

You can update certain details within the INS LifeGuardian® app or Client Portal, or by contacting us directly. We will promptly correct any information found to be inaccurate or incomplete.

Can I delete my account and have my data removed? 

You can initiate deletion of your INS LifeGuardian® account (and associated information) through the mobile app. INS will take reasonable steps to destroy information associated with your account, subject to retaining any information it is required to keep under Australian law or its Privacy Policy.

What happens to my data if I stop using the INS LifeGuardian® app or cancel my subscription?

INS may retain personal, communication, billing and related data for up to seven years after the end of your engagement with INS, in accordance with our Data Retention and Destruction Policy.

Data Use and Sharing 

Does INS LifeGuard share my information with third parties?

INS may disclose personal information only for the purposes set out in our Privacy Policy, such as providing or supporting a service you have requested, meeting legal obligations, responding to emergencies, or where you have given consent.

INS may also make personal information available to third-party service providers (for example, cloud or technical support providers), including some located overseas, but directs them to comply with the same standards and obligations described in our Privacy Policy.

Who can see my health data — is it just nurses, or others too?

Your data is accessed only by authorised INS clinical or technical personnel where necessary to deliver or support the service.

Can my doctor access my information?

You may request that INS share your health summaries and reports from nursing reviews directly with your GP or healthcare professional.

Does INS LifeGuard use my data for research or analytics?

INS may use de-identified or aggregated data for service improvement and research purposes. No personally identifiable information is shared unless you have given consent.

Will my data ever be shared with insurers or government bodies?

Only if required by law, regulation, or by your explicit consent.

Storage and Security 

Is my information stored in Australia or overseas?

INS stores personal information securely using electronic and/or hard-copy formats. Information may be made available to trusted third-party service providers, including cloud-service and website hosts, some of whom operate overseas. INS directs these third parties to follow the same standards and obligations set out in our Privacy Policy, although privacy laws in other countries may differ from those in Australia.

Where is my health information stored, and is it covered by Australian privacy law?

Your information is stored securely by INS in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Regardless of where it is processed, it is handled under the Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

How is my data protected against breaches or hacking?

INS takes reasonable and practicable steps to ensure that your personal information is protected against interference, unauthorised access, misuse or loss. Measures may be physical, electronic, or procedural, and INS staff are trained to handle personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and current laws.

How long does INS LifeGuard keep my data?

INS may retain personal, communication, billing and other information for up to seven years after termination of any contract or engagement, in accordance with its Data Retention and Destruction Policy.

Consent and Family Access

How can my family receive alerts from my app?

Your family or carers can download the INS LifeGuardian Connect® app, which allows them to receive alerts, view shared health information (if you allow it), and stay connected.

How do I give consent for my family or care provider to view my information?

You control who has access. During setup or later within the app or Client Portal, you can nominate family members or care providers and specify what they can view.

Can I revoke access for family members or care staff later?

Yes, you can remove access at any time from within your settings or by contacting our support team.

How can I see who currently has access to my information?

You can review permissions in your client Portal or in the app under Emergency Contacts.

App Integration

Does the INS LifeGuardian® app connect to Apple Health or Google Fit?

Yes. The app integrates with Apple Health on iOS and Google Fit on Android to collect vital-sign and activity data if you enable those permissions.

What information is shared between the app and my smartwatch?

Depending on your device, this may include heart rate, step count, oxygen level, blood pressure, or fall/crash detection data.

Can I choose which data types are shared?

Yes. You can manage permissions directly in your smartphone’s settings under Health Data or Connected Apps.

General Privacy Reassurance

Is INS LifeGuard subject to the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)?

Yes. INS is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

How can I make a privacy complaint?

If you believe an act or practice of INS has interfered with your privacy, please send a written complaint to the INS Privacy Contact Officer. We’ll investigate and provide a written response within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can refer the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
